Very Low-Frequency Oscillation Source Localization on Ireland's Power System

This paper presents an approach for studying Very Low-Frequency Oscillations (VLFOs) between 0.03 and 0.08 Hz that have been observed on Irelands All-Island transmission system. Previous work by Ireland's TSO has found the occurrence of VLFO is linked to generation dispatch synchronous machines with governor control. study verifies previous research analyses sensitivities such as inertia, system frequency online generator status causes increase in VLF mode magnitude. paper's results are based 1-second resolution frequency, metered power metric data from 1/1/2018 1/10/2020. analysis demonstrates oscillatory mode's stability highly correlated if governors consistently provide positive damping torque not synchronized. The findings demonstrated several events Irish using PMU data. governor-based dissipating energy flow method used validate relationships case study.
